Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
I formed a life long friendship with the electric guitar around the age of 10 or so and never parted ways.
I was so intrigued by the recording process and the recording magic of the late 60s and early 70s that I decided to study electronics. Electronotes was a magazine that helped helped many electronic music composers realize the power of synthesizers, sound modifiers and the emerging Electronic Audio Arts.
Radio Stations such as WXPN, and WPSU, that aired music programs such as Stars End, Penn State Avant Garde, Tangerine Dream, Kraftwerk and Wendy Carlos's Sonic Seasonings became major inspirational signals in my musical journey.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
I've done a lot of live performances and still remember jamming with the Outlaws at Crazy Karl's Brick-House Tavern in State College Pa. That was AWESOME.
I was encouraged when I started receiving regular play on Penn State Radio's "Avant-Garde Show", Hosted by Cosmic Ray Cromie, WPSU.
It's was quite the impression, when I first heard my material played over the radio. Even if it was well past the midnight hour!
That was when I started putting together Windtryst Farm Studio and Memory Stain Recording.
Your musical influences
Beatles, of course. Led Zep, ELP, Yes, Genesis, lots of Prog Rock Groups, and then the other stuff. Harry Partch, Tangareen Dream, Paul Winter Consort, Damn. the list is filled with anything but poppy bubble gum rock.
What equipment do you use?
I use a custom gaming computer setup that my son Jason Allen built for me, a Zoom H2N recorder for field recording and a Behringer UMC-404 interface that I can plug microphones and various instruments into.
Beyond that, there's lots and lots of experimental Instruments, circuitry, and recording techniques used to create the atmospheric and ambient soundscapes that realize Audiochosis - Audio Mirage.
I focus on creating new and other worldly sounds, backgrounds and landscapes.
Anything else?
In short, Steven F. Allen (Audiochosis) is an artist who creates evocative and sometimes unsettling soundscapes, pushing the boundaries of electronic and acoustic sound and music. My goal is to create immersive and unique sonic experiences, that reflect a commitment to exploring the possibilities when incorporating real-world sounds into musical narratives.
Electronic Audio Art, Sound Poetry, and Surrealistic Sonic Landscapes interwoven with traditional and electronic instrumentation.
