This song has great meaning to a few of us that hung together in Portland in the early 90s. Especially my good friend Danny. The original title was "You can make me smile". her name was Heather, and she did not deserve what happened to her.
With out going into a lot of details. Her name was Heather, and she was our friend. She got mixed up with the wrong guy. Her death hit us all like a sledgehammer.
She could make everyone smile.
This song is hers.
Verse-1
If I had the time
And you could find the place I'd have stopped the world for you
Made borrowed time erased
I thought you were the one I'd build my life around
But the damage has been done
Now you're a part of the lost and found
Chorus
You gave your life far too young
Was it meant to be that way
Wern't you meant to carry on
Your spirits flown
Your shadows gone
It wasn't meant end that way
You were meant to carry on
Verse-2
Now I spend my time
Searching for the sound of your essence left behind
Doesn't seem to be around
With every passing day I'm left here with the fact
That no matter how I try
I just can't bring you back
Chorus
You gave your life far too young
Was it meant to be that way
Wern't you meant to carry on
Your spirits flown
Your shadows gone
It wasn't meant end that way
You were meant to carry on
End
If I'd had the time, and you could find the place
I'd give my whole world
For one last embrace
